Position Description:
The AmeriCorps Member’s role is to work for the Wayne County Fair Association and the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Wayne County to provide local youth educational programming and assist with other youth activities. The Wayne County Fair Association and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Wayne County is looking for qualified candidates to support ISU Extension and Outreach efforts along with the Wayne County Fair Association to provide positive youth development programming, assist the County Youth Coordinator with work as provided, support volunteers with their work, assist with preparation of and implementation of multiple summer day camps along with preparation and implementation of Wayne County Fair activities. This opportunity will also allow you to build positive relationships with volunteers, youth, and community partners. This position is for 450 hours and has a flexible schedule, dependent on youth programming and fair activity needs.
Qualifications:
- At least 17 years of age at the time of starting the position.
- Experience in 4-H and/or FFA programming or other youth development preferred.
- Experience in managing groups of 15-20 youth preferred.
- Capable of taking direction and working independently.
- Energetic, imaginative, and a self-starter who works well in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience in public communication.
- Strong computer skills in programs such as Microsoft Word, and Excel, as well as experience with social media platforms and design tools like Canva.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
Responsibilities Include:
- Assist the County Youth Coordinator and the Wayne County Fair Board in organizing scheduled programs, deliver day camps and workshops in June and July, administer evaluation materials, and implement youth events at the Wayne County Fair.
- Prepare press releases, program brochures, schedules, mailings, and other informational materials in support of youth programs.
- Complete planning process for youth programs, including familiarizing oneself with the curriculum for program facilitation, shopping/ordering supplies, printing copies,
preparing the physical site and administering parent and youth evaluations.
- Manage registration process and maintain attendance records and medical/release forms as necessary.’
- Assist with recruiting adult and youth volunteers.
- Conduct planned activities to recruit youth to participate in local youth programs and the Wayne County Fair.
- Coordinate efforts to report youth activities externally to the community.
- Present a review of activities the member participated in and completed during the 450 hours of service.
Member Placement:
- 450 hour position
- Exact service dates will be determined and agreed upon by the AmeriCorps member, County Youth Coordinator, the Wayne County Extension Council, and the Wayne County Fair Association.
- The member will work approximately 24-32 hours per week, but shall not exceed 40 hours in any given week. The Wayne County Fair (July 25th through August 6th) will have extended hours throughout the event, including preparation and event wrap-up, and will be required.
- The member should expect limited evening and weekend hours.
Requirements:

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 35 pounds.
- Ability to pass a background screening.
Living Allowance: $5,400
Educational Award: $1,565.08
Accountability
- The Wayne County Fair AmeriCorps Member will report to the Wayne County Fair Board.
- The Wayne County AmeriCorps Member will work closely with the Wayne County Extension AmeriCorps Member.
- This position will report to the Wayne County Fair Board, and day-to-day direction will be provided by the Wayne County Extension Office.
